You're Overcomplicating Production (paravoce.bearblog.dev)

I’ve always been a fan of really simple and boring solutions. Solve the business problem with as little technology as possible, so it is easy to understand, support, and maintain. Then move on to new business problems, solving them using similarly boring solutions.

Going with complexity and trends means re-solving the same problem again and again. This is something that would make my job harder, leave me stuck reinventing the same wheel each year, and unable to solve any other problems for the business.

The interesting thing about the job shouldn’t be technology for technology’s sake. It should be find and solving the business problems. Solving new problems is much more fun than troubleshooting and overly complex tech stack with a dozen other people, where each person only knows their little piece, and no one has the full picture needed to actually fix anything.
