It wasn’t until I took a compiler course that I truly understood how important Noam Chomsky is.

As part of my degree, I took linguistics as a humanities elective. I guess at my university, they don't have many CompSci/SoftEng students take a linguistics course. My professor asked me specifically why I took her a class. I told her that I knew Noam Chomsky, a god in linguistics, helped shaped quiet a few things in Computer Science. Really surprised her that I knew that and thought it was awesome.

Also for anyone. If you get a chance to take a linguistics course, take it. It really is a fascinating topic. The implications on computer languages, but just in general it is just interesting.

Chomsky is fine with formal grammars, but completely wrong when it comes to natural languages.
