When did travel blogging get so boring? (2017) (thisbatteredsuitcase.com)

I dont even know where to get travel content.

I thought it would be cool to write about travel, I think ive been to like 15 countries. But who would read my stories or even find them?

I saw i could maybe sell some stuff for like 30 cents a word? It looks like a ton of work to make that maybe happen.

Idk id be interested in hearing about people's success with writing about travel. In real life, no one wants to hear it lol, is there really an audience?

The issue is that most monetisation options incentivize watering down your content and moderating your criticism.

Who would you sell your words to? Would they be okay with you saying "I did not like ______ and don't think it's worth visiting"? The unspoken deal is that you're paid to promote your clients.

I went on a 30,000km motorcycle trip a few years ago. Like everyone else, I wanted to film and document everything. Like everyone else, I discovered how tedious it is, how it diminishes the experience, and how no one really cares. You feel really unique until you see garage and hotel doors plastered with the stickers of people just like you.

However, no one writes about the technical stuff: visas, border crossings, SIM cards, withdrawing money, etc. No one covers this, yet it's far easier to monetize (insurance, technical services, etc). Caravanistan is a good example of that, although it could be much better.

I say let Becky tell people to live like a local after spending two days there, and make your fortune selling the means to get there.

I keep thinking of doing it, but my hands are full maintaining something very similar for a single city.

Thats actually the kind of content I want to write lol. I went on some trips recently and i find everything i read to be to flowery and optimistic. Everything is amazing.

Interesting ideas though

Yeah no idea who to sell to or who wants to read
