So George Harrison's "The Inner Light", which he cribbed, lyrically, from Tao Te Ching (Chapter 47):

Without going outside, you may know the whole world.

Without looking through the window, you may see the ways of heaven.

The farther you go, the less you know.

This may be true for others but I definitely count myself out. Travel is when I am truly at peace with myself and my mind.

Travel for me though is on the road, an extended road trip with lots of empty time just driving, bored, thinking, reflecting. The day to day distractions gone. This kind of travel to distinguish from the kind of travel that is navigating tourists on Waikiki or trying to find an ATM in Seoul.

Although, since I mentioned trying to find an ATM in Seoul, there is a lot to learn about yourself when you travel and see other cultures up close. It opens your mind to all the other possible ways there are to live, makes you question why you are going about your own life the way you have been, how much of it is autopilot, how much of it is because it is all you've known. I guess I generally think all travel is good.

Agree with the final sentiment though: strive to find peace within one's self. Travel for me though is when I have found I can best achieve that. For others it might be reading, hiking, out on a motorcycle or bicycle. (Actually, all of those help me as well.)
