Their whole argument seems to be about the use of simple hotkeys (cmd-p) vs menu items (File->Print).

Text editors are a completely different application of the same input devices. I also think that studying the efficiency and speed of typing complex text is much harder than measuring the speed at which a user can activate a simple command.
