You make some fair points, but it’s also worth some self-reflection as an HOA president to understand why so many people resent these institutions. I’ve given two HOAs an honest try, and both ended up reinforcing the same patterns of pettiness and overreach that give them their reputation. The structure itself seems to attract a small group exerting outsized control over others’ property. Hopefully, over time, communities can move toward simpler, more democratic systems that preserve shared spaces without breeding unnecessary conflict.

Just delete your old emails to balance it off.

Tried that but it's still not raining

Do you mean nick sim or HN?

I always thought there was a tremendous irony in Germany’s far left heavily protesting Tesla for Elon’s speech while their own corporate giant committed widespread emissions fraud for years

These are two issues independent of each other.

One argument doesn't make the other in any way worse or better

I'm a German, I was not aware that VW was doing this until it came out and it was a huge blow out.

Do you think people just test their cars fume output?! You do understand that the software was build to detect being on a test stand right?

Who reverse engineers software like this...

The Scandal was big in Germany and contrary to complaints about Musk there was quite a lot legal action against VW (while law has some restrictions preventing huge damage claims as in the US) so I don't really understand the comparison.

Why is this irony? One is being done out in the open and the other was unknown for years, so unless "the far left" knew about the defeat devices, this is a false dichotomy.

Its a false dichotomy either way because VW and the handling of the administration back then was heavily criticized by many parties, including left leaning parties like the greens

I don't understand. It's not like the far left is Volkswagen's fan club?

Elon campaigned for the German far right party which basically everyone including Germans conservative party regards as fascist. It's not a far left thing to oppose that

There were multiple protests in 2016.

They protest every time a company fucks up like that.

Paper dollars are a common store of value in emerging markets. Trading digital dollars for paper dollars, is becoming as common as paper foreign exchange

You likely have 90% of your wealth directly tied to the success of the US. Politically unpredictable and divided, larger deficits than ever, persistent inflation, trillion dollar DOD budget while most under the age of 35 are burdened with huge education debt, unaffordable housing & healthcare, and failing infrastructure and systems.

US assets aren't becoming more valuable, the dollar is losing purchasing power. Bitcoin is a hedge that the US won't maintain it's dominance and growth trajectory of the last 30 years.

Congrats, to YC. The world is full of people who will discount the success of Brian and , but in just a few short years he's created one of the world's largest financial institutions.

In line with the ethos of crypto? No, not at all, but a bridge has been made between the old world and the new. This IPO will load the coffers of some of the most innovative VCs, engineers, and people who took the risk of investing in, and working at Coinbase.

This is disputed by the bitcoin community and likely just typical BTC FUD: https://twitter.com/aantonop/status/1352239314587983873?s=19

"Yesterday both Bitcoin.org and Bitcoincore.org received allegations of copyright infringement of the Bitcoin whitepaper by lawyers representing Craig Steven Wright. In this letter, they claim Craig owns the copyright to the paper, the Bitcoin name, and ownership of bitcoin.org. They also claim he is Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin, and the original owner of bitcoin.org. Bitcoin.org and Bitcoincore.org were both asked to take down the whitepaper."

> In this letter, they claim Craig owns the copyright to the paper, the Bitcoin name, and ownership of bitcoin.org.

Isn't that basically asking for a lawsuit in the format of "Prove that you are Satoshi or be charged with perjury" ? Why is CSW still able to play these tricks?

Yes it is. He is wanting to get into a situation where he can provide proof in a legal setting so that any outcome can be used in other legal battles.

Because the cost of the lawsuit would still be carried by these open source volunteers.
