Why feel bad for them when they don’t? The paychecks and stock options keep them plenty warm at night.

The comp might be decent but most folks I know that are still there say they’re pretty miserable and the environment is becoming toxic. A bit more pay only goes so far.

Sorry, "becoming" toxic? Amazon has been famous for being toxic since forever.

It's a perspective issue. Amazon designs the first year to not "feel" toxic to most people. Thereafter, any semblance of propriety disappears.

> stock options

Timing.

If Amazon has peaked then they will not be worth much. Shares go down. Even in rising markets shares of failing companies go down...

Mind tho, Amazon has so much mind share they will need to fail harder to fail totally...

Their investors and investments. Artificially increasing the demand for AI by ramming it down users’ throats is great for the bottom line.

Edit: To give an actual contrarian view, this could be useful for people who are completely computer illiterate, but need to use a computer for work/school etc and have no desire to learn the basics of using a desktop OS.

basically gen zalpha.

He was a war criminal and a Nixon crony who among other things started the US practice of overthrowing democratically elected regimes to install US backed military juntas

Kissinger can take the blame for a great many things, but not for starting the US practice of overthrowing democratically elected regimes. He was still getting his Ph.D. when the CIA helped overthrow the Mossadegh government in Iran, primarily to help our buddies in England keep their hands on the Iranians' oil.

That piece of corrupt foreign policy has spoiled U.S.-Iran relations ever since, but Kissinger had nothing to do with it.

Texas is famously fraud friendly as well

Budget resolutions require 60 votes to pass, so they really can’t. But they know that and their refusal to negotiate is blocking it. Dems are doing what’s best for their constituents by not voting for a budget that would skyrocket healthcare costs for millions of Americans. Meanwhile the GOP is spreading misinformation that Dems want to fund healthcare for illegal immigrants, who have NEVER been eligible for it.

Budget resolutions for quite some time have used the reconciliation process, which only requires a simple majority (but imposes some restrictions). The problem is that they shoved through the “OBBBA” using the process intended for the budget, and now it’s no longer available. You can only use the process once per year per subject (spending, revenue, debt limit), and the OBBBA used up all three.

There is no law requiring 60 votes. Only a senate rule, which can be overturned with 51 votes.

Saying Dems are blocking it when the GOP refuses to show up for their jobs and negotiate is a pretty big reach. And calling it “clean” when it doesn’t even balance the budget is just bullshit

Online/mobile sports betting is relatively new, was only legalized in the last decade. It’s grown massively in popularity

> A core strategic strength of the US over the last century has been that everyone with any talent wants to come here to work, and by and large we’ve let them do so.

This is a double edged sword given that it means there’s less incentive to invest in US public education and fostering our own talent. Instead of brain drain we’re dealing with brain rot.

A hugely overlooked point. If FAANG etc want talented people, and couldn't hire H1Bs, they might have more of an incentive to try to influence education and to train people with aptitude but lacking learnable skills.

As of now, both the K12 system and college education seem in freefall in terms of quality and applicability to careers. No doubt those companies will devote their money to lobbying to keep hiring H1Bs instead of training the talent they need here, since they're just profit-optimizing functions, rather than humans with morals.

Let’s not pretend that the Trump admin would’ve done anything about it even if they did have leverage. They actively encourage and participate in violent rhetoric when it’s directed towards their perceived enemies. Which includes the homeless.

Still subject to ISP whims, and still just renting the domain name

And renting the Internet access.
